The $24,000 Lesson

Words I like: Getting scammed sucks so hard man.

I got on a call today.

The prospect had been paying a cold email agency (at least) $4,000/month for six months (according to the agency's website).

$24,000 total.

Outrageous enough that I recorded a youtube video about it just now.

And mind you, I'm not the guy to use "lol" a lot. But here we go:

What the agency actually delivered:

  • 3,000 prospects contacted per month (we do that per day, per client lol)
  • $1.33 per email sent (lol)
  • A sequence blasted to the same 3,000 people six times instead of reaching new ones (lolololol)
  • A reporting dashboard with 12 metrics — only 2 of them useful (looooooool)
  • No access to the winning scripts (lol)
  • No flexibility on targeting (lol)
  • No performance incentive. Just a retainer. Flat. (LOL)

The agency had set up a campaign on day one and coasted for six months.

Cherry on top:

Because the agency had zero skin in the game, the prospect had to hire an in-house appointment setter just to convert the trickle of leads coming in.

Two parties. $24,000. Not done-for-you. 49 leads in six months.

What a real cold email partner looks like:

  • Pay per qualified call only. No retainer. No tech fees.
  • 3,000+ prospects contacted per day
  • Dedicated SDRs. Backup SDRs. Handoff notes for your AEs.
  • You own the data - scripts, CSVs, everything
  • Start within 24 hours. No long-term contract.

Incentive structure is only for actual winners. Actual performers. Losers hate performance based deals. I love them.

If we don't book calls, we don't eat. Simple.

As promised, value in under a minute.

P.S.I imagine this is what the sales call looked like for the agency charging $1.33 per email.

Words I like: If you're going to make the ask, make the ask. If you're going to provide value, provide value. Never do something in between. Most Follow-Ups Are Trash Most people's follow-up strategy is just checking in with different words. "Just bumping this up." "Circling back." "Wanted to follow up on my last email." Completely free of value. Which is why I uploaded a new YouTube video to my channel. Just search for: "Follow Up Cold Email That Actually Works" Every touch needs a reason to...

Most people blame their cold email copy when campaigns flop. And it's almost never the copy. So I recorded this YouTube video. Your infrastructure is the bottleneck. I've seen hundreds of cold email campaigns. Every single bad one has the same root cause: broken infrastructure. Not bad copy. Not weak offers. Bad infrastructure. Here's the 7-step setup that separates campaigns doing 5–10% reply rates from the ones stuck below 1%. 1. Domains & inboxes Use a done-for-you service (I use...
